The 2020 Honda CBR400R was launched in Japan recently. The motorcycle is unlikely to be introduced in India anytime soon. However, considering its body style and purpose, it would lock horns with the TVS Apache RR310 BS6 in our country. Now, in order to find out which one’s better on paper, we compare them for our curious readers.

Honda CBR400R :

The 2020 Honda CBR400R has been revealed in Japan. The new motorcycle does not get any significant updates when compared to the previous model. Honda has, however, included a revised ‘CBR’ logo design for the latest 400cc fully-faired sportbike.

Being a sportbike, the 2020 Honda CBR400R features clip-on handlebars, however, the riding stance is not too aggressive. As a result, the motorcycle can be used for both city commutes as well as touring. Speaking of touring, the fuel tank capacity of the 2020 CBR400R is 17 litres and with a fuel efficiency of up to 28-29 km/l (WMTC value), it should provide a good range.

The 399cc twin-cylinder engine of the 2020 Honda CBR400R comes with a DOHC setup for smooth and uninterrupted power delivery. It is capable of producing 46 PS at 9,000 rpm and 38 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The liquid-cooled mill is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox.

 TVS Apache RR 310 BS6 :

TVS has updated its flagship motorcycle -- the Apache RR 310 -- yet again in order to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. However, the changes are limited to just the updated motor and nothing more. The last update brought with it ride-by-wire, four rider modes, and a colour TFT dash. As a result, the TVS Apache RR 310 BS6 now costs Rs 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), making it Rs 12,000 more than its BS4 counterpart.

TVS Apache RR 310 Features:

The 2020 TVS Apache RR 310 features a full-colour TFT screen with information such as post-ride analytics, gear shift assist indicator, turn-by-turn navigation, vehicle health information, vehicle status, and overview. Other notable features include the ability to accept and reject calls using the control cubes placed on the left-hand side switchgear. The Apache RR 310 also comes equipped with Glide Through Technology PLUS (GTTP) and a hazard switch.

TVS Apache RR 310 Engine:

The Apache RR 310’s BS6-compliant 312.2cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor makes 34PS of power and 27.3Nm of peak torque (same as before). It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission which gets a slipper clutch. The first map, which is meant for Rain and Urban, restricts the power output to 28.5PS, while the second map used for Sport and Track unleashes the full 34PS. Same goes for torque -- 25Nm and 27Nm.  runs on two different power maps that are available through four ride modes (Rain, Urban, Sport, Track). TVS Apache RR 310 Suspension & Brakes:

The TVS Apache RR 310 uses the same suspension setup as before -- an upside fork and a KYB-tuned rear monoshock. What's changed though is its damping characteristics. A 300mm front petal disc with radial caliper and a 240mm rear petal disc bring the bike to halt. While the Apache RR 310 retains its dual-channel ABS setup, its sensitivity and intrusiveness vary according to the four riding modes.

All said and done, the most crucial update in terms of hardware has to be the new tyre -- a set of Michelin Road 5 W-rated tyres as opposed to the Michelin Pilot Street rubber in the BS4 model.
